QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Trades and Labor Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker rather than length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be ranked based on their knowledge of the following elements: MUST POSSESS - Current Valid State Driver License; wear a Corps of Engineers uniform; and work weekends and holidays. (1) ABILITY TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAT NORMAL SUPERSVISION (SCREEN OUT). (2) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. (3) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). (4) Use of Measuring Instrucments. (5) Ability to interpret instructsions, specifications, etc (includes blueprint reading). (6) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. (7) Knowledge of Materials. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires constant arm and leg movement and reaching, bending and turning to operate hand and foot controls when driving tractor or motor vehicle. Exerts extra effort to maintain balance and position at controls of tractor and exerts extra effort to turn the larger and heavier vehicles and to operate the additional controls of heavier motor vehicles. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works on scaffolds and ladders, which requires work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Exerts very heavy physical effort frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing heavy loads and operating heavy hand-held equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outdoors in all weather conditions, including periods of extreme heat and cold and inclement weather. Subject to injury from lifting and handling heavy materials and equipment, discomfort from noise and vibration of equipment, and hazards associated with operating vehicles and equipment, applying pesticides, and performing duties in the vicinity of flood control projects (dirt, fumes, cuts, bruises, falls, broken bones and drowning).The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Experience and training that furnish the knowledges, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade. Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment. Ability to read, understand, and apply instruction and other materials related to the job.Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Performs a variety of duties involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures of flood control facilities. Operates four-wheel, field type tractors; drives gasoline and diesel powered truck and/or dump trucks with GVW up to 22,000 pounds or more. Performs operational maintenance and repairs to automotive and mechanical equipment. Services and makes on the spot repairs to tractors, mowers, trucks, and all mechanical equipment utilized. Dispenses gasoline, checks fluid levels, and tire pressures, inflates, changes and/or repairs tires, and lubricates equipment. Keeps access roads, parking areas, and signs clean and in good repair. Builds and sets forms on projects; measures, cuts and constructs or repairs wood or wood substitue items, and prepares and paints a variety of interior and exterior surfaces.
