The Cincinnati VA Medical Center operates 2 campuses -Cincinnati, OH and Ft. Thomas, KY which provides health care to eligible veterans in Ohio, southeast Indiana and northern KY.Five community based outpatient clinics located in Butler County, OH, Florence, KY, Bellevue, KY, Clermont County, OH and Lawrenceburg, IN.

Nursing Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GS-5: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Current Federal Employees must also meet time-in-grade requirements: Have been no less than two grades lower than the announced grade during the preceding 52 weeks under their latest non-temporary competitive appointment for the GS-5 Grade level.
Specialized experience:Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred. Experience must include non professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as:
Ø Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care.
Ø Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.
Ø Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.
Ø Transporting Patients

4year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor?s degree with courses related to the occupation.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Full performance level duties will include but are not limited to:Performs or assists patients with bathing, shaving, daily oral hygiene, denture care, feeding, dressing, positioning and transferring; obtains vital signs; assists patients with range of motion exercises; applies and removes non-sterile dressings; obtains and labels specimens; assists physicians and nurses in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures; provides post mortem care; performs simple routine tests; keeps bedside and nursing area clean; provides urinary catheter care; and performs gastrostomy and nasogastric tube feedings.Incumbent suctions tracheotomy, oral and nasopharyngeal; irrigates colostomies; provides pouching of stomas / ostomy care; attends and participates in team meetings, ward conferences, and in-service programs; updates patient medical records; and performs other basic nursing care as required.
