QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education:Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
AND
Registration:Applicants must have active, current registration as an RN in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcripts (or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed and grades) to document that you have met the education requirement. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required prior to beginning employment. The Team Leader in the Transfusion Collection Area is clinical nurse who has advanced skills in blood collection, patient and donor assessment, and apheresis.
The Clinical Nurse manages the daily operations of BSS, including staff assignments, supply and resources allocation, in conjunction with the Clinical or Nurse Manager. He/She provides blood component collection specialty consultation in response to request from DTM fellows, Physicians, visitors and nursing staff.
He/She performs health histories and physical examinations on donors and patients to assure that blood and blood components can be safely removed for transfusion, research, or as a therapeutic treatment.The Clinical Nurse performs apheresis, and removes blood and blood components in accordance with regulatory standards and clinical protocols.He/she prepares equipment and supplies, attends to the safety and comfort of patients/donors, explains procedures, observes donor/patients, records conditions and reactions, and notifies physicians of adverse conditions or significant incidents.
