Maintains medical and administrative supplies; provides guidance to clerical personnel in maintaining proper patient flow and proper utilization of time and space for efficient patient care. General Schedule One year Specialized Experience that required the application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience: Knowledge and skill sufficient to perform a moderately difficult range of specialized tasks pertaining to treatment of patients with orthopedic problems and sufficient experience to perform as a responsible assistant to an Orthopedic Physician, Orthopedic Physician Assistant, Podiatrist, or Orthopedic Residents. Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply braces, remove casts and splints, fit crutches and canes and provide instructions to patients on proper care of specific conditions and proper use and application of braces. Knowledge of the clinical and surgical procedures performed in clinic and instrumentation used in connection with orthopedic surgery and skill sufficient to pass instruments to the surgeon during minor surgical and clinical procedures performed in clinical treatment room. Shafter, Kapalama and Camp Smith MAJOR DUTIES: BackToTop(); Obtains vital signs, chief complaint(s) and/or patient history following clinic guidelines. Reports abnormal and/or significant data to nursing staff orthopedic technician and physician. Prepares patients for examinations, minor procedures and clinical treatments by instruction of physician. Assist physicians with examinations, treatments and procedures including assistance with instrument, injections, dressings, medication, diagnostic studies, biological specimens and patient treatment and consent forms. Fits and assists in instructions of crutches or canes use for patients proper gait. Makes prescribed modifications of supportive devices. Acts as first assistant to Orthopedic Physician, Orthopedic Physician Assistant, Podiatrist, or Orthopedic Residents in performing injections, reductions and minor surgical procedures. Records completion of procedures appropriate and accurate in patient's computerized data based chart. Participates in effective and efficient patient treatment.
