WTEW08380502 Telecommunications Worker QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Click on link below to view qualification standard. Trades and Labor QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: Qualifying experience is work that provides the applicant with the ability to install and maintain different types of cables and cable systems used for data communication. An in depth knowledge of data communication concepts, principles and practices, data communications operating techniques, digital and analog communication requirements, local and wide area networking, and internetworking concepts and principles. Knowledge of basic electronic concepts and principles. You will also need to possess skills in using various hand tools and an ability to understand site layout sheets, wiring diagrams, or schematics. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is generally performed indoors, often in dusty, dirty, or cluttered office areas. Subject to electrical shock and minor cuts, bruises and contusions from handling cable and equipment and from using power and handtools. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent bending, stooping, crawling, pulling cables/wires using various handtools, climbing ladders, working in high places and working overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Must use manual or portable power tools weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted for extended periods in uncomfortable positions. Occasionally lifts tools weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.Experience and training that furnish the knowledges, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade. Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment. Ability to read, understand, and apply instruction and other materials related to the job.Ability to do the work of the position under normal supervision.Must be able to stand for long periods of time; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and reaching.Work requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods in uncomfortable positions. WTEW08380502 Telecommunications Worker Additional Duty Location Info:1 vacancy - HI - Tripler, Ft. Shafter, Kapalama and Camp Smith MAJOR DUTIES: BackToTop(); You will assist in installing, modifying, maintaining, relocating, adjusting, diagnosing, testing and repairing a variety of communication systems (i.e., Network, nurse call, overhead paging, broadband and base-band LAN systems). Assist in running wires and cables between automation and communication components and to any outside cable system. Install molding, conduits, insulators, connectors and terminal boxes and other protective and support items. Construct connectors and terminators. Attach cables to interface data terminal equipment with data communication equipment employing serial binary data interchange. Under supervision conduct site surveys to determine work methods, manpower resources, tools, supplies and materials required to install, remove and locate cable systems. Also performs on-site troubleshooting to determine location and nature of the problem and make repairs. Visually check equipment and correct sources of trouble such as bare wires or loose connections.
