WTEV08265792R Maintenance Mechanic Helper QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Click on link below to view qualification standard. Trades and Labor To qualify, no specific length of experience or training is required; however you must be able to demonstrate through information provided in your resume to include volunteer work and other non-paid experience, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Applications will also be reviewed based on the following: Ability to do the work of Maintenance Mechanic Helper without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT); knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc; technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic); use of measuring instruments; ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc (includes blueprint reading); ability to use and maintain tools and equipment; and knowledge of materials. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee works in tiring positions for prolonged periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, and arm movement. Employee works on ladders and scaffolds which requires incumbent to work overhead or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. May occasionally be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated buildings. Noise from hammers, saws, and other power shop tools is frequent. These is exposure to dust and dirt. Injuries may occur from lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment; cuts and bruises in using hand tools and equipment; more serious injuries in operating power tools and in falls from ladders and scaffolds. Condition of Employment: Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license for the State of Alaska.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Experience and training that furnish the knowledges, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade. Wainwright MAJOR DUTIES: BackToTop(); Assists journeymen in the utilities trades such as mechanics, pipe fitters, and electricians in their duties by performing basic tasks incidental to the trades. Assists in preparatory work by assembling tools and materials and carrying them to the job site. Assists journeymen in performing miscellaneous work such as repair of boilers, pumps, coal equipment, threading pipe, pulling wire, etc. Learns to use a variety of hand and power tools in accomplishing assignments. Cleans work area and tools, and keeps machines lubricated.
