JOB SUMMARY:
Iron Mountain VA Medical Center (VAMC) is announcing the following position:A full-time Audiologist to work in an audiological diagnostic and treatment setting at the Iron Mountain VAMC.
The Iron Mountain VA Medical Center is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is part of the VA?s Great Lakes Health Care System in the Veteran?s Integrated Service Network (VISN 12). The medical center and its community clinics serve eligible veterans in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (fifteen counties) and Northeast Wisconsin (eleven counties).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizen of the United States.
Master?s degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university is required.Note: Accredited is defined as a college or university accredited by a regional accreditation organization and an audiology program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Within 2 years of initial appointment, the incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license/registration in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Failure to obtain licensure within 2 years of initial appointment may be grounds for termination.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Directives.
Physical requirements as outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Must pass a pre-employment physical.
IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
GS-11:Education and Experience.Completion of 1 year of professional experience as an audiologist equivalent to the next lower level; or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; or doctoral degree in audiology, hearing science, or a directly related field.In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the corresponding KSAs identified in the rating factors below.
GS-12: Education and Experience.In addition to the requirements at the GS-11 level, completion of 1 year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level and possession of a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology.In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the corresponding KSAs identified in the rating factors below.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in audiology for this position. In some cases, these may be substituted for experience and education.

(6)Ability to interact with patients, families, and other health care professionals.

(1)Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies;
(2)Knowledge of clinical services, and the ability to perform them independently;

(4)Ability to provide consultation to other health care professionals;

Audiologist

MAJOR DUTIES:

Completes comprehensive hearing evaluation (HE) and/or hearing aid evaluation (HAE) including pure tone audiometric measurements; speech audiometry in both quiet and noise (SNR deficits); dynamic range mapping to include real-ear uncomfortable loudness measures at continuous tone to determine real-ear to dial differences (REDD); and subjective unaided outcome measures for both aided and unaided benefit/satisfaction accountability. Counsels patients on results of HE and/or HAE. Assesses patients for hearing aid candidacy and motivation to utilize amplification through hearing aids and/or assistive listening devices. Fabricates ear molds for behind-the-ear or custom products, ensuring that tragus is included and ear molds are marked for proper placement. Verifies proper functioning of devices and provides patient orientation and instruction on proper use, features, and maintenance. Conducts cerumen management on patients when necessary and appropriate according to established guidelines. Performs physiologic audiology measurements when needed to include auditory brain stem audiometry, immittance audiometry, and otoacoustic emissions audiometry.
