The Human Resources Office, Glacier National Park, is soliciting applications for the purpose of filling the permanent position listed above.The area of consideration is ALL SOURCES.

Area Location:
Duty Station Location is West Glacier, MT. West Glacier has seasonal food and gas services. Columbia Falls (17 miles) has most amenities; however, all services are available in Kalispell (32 miles) or Whitefish (28 miles). Glacier National Park and its surrounding area provide a variety of recreational activities both in the summer (hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing/kayaking, boating, etc.) and in winter (cross country and downhill skiing, hunting, ice fishing, etc.). The majestic mountain vistas, cool lakes and streams, the variety of wildflowers, and wildlife sightings are special attractions to the area.Winters in West Glacier are characterized by frequent snow, cold, and extended periods of overcast weather. Grade school through grade 6 is available in West Glacier. Junior high and high school students are bused to Columbia Falls.

Government housing is not available.

VISUAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must meet qualification standards as specified in Office of Personnel Management’s Qualifications Standards Handbook for the GS-1084 occupational series as listed below:

GS-11: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level OR completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M, if related (i.e., graphic design, visual communication).

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled (i.e., preparation and use of photographs, electronic media, digital layout and design, illustrations, drawings, and/or other work such as charts, diagrams, maps, slides, and/or other kinds of visual material for interpreting through visual means).

EDUCATION: Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts listed above meets the requirements for this position.One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year for full-time study (generally 18 semester hours are considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.The first 2 years of graduate study are not qualifying for GS-11.

TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT FOR YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS OR A LIST OF YOUR COLLEGE COURSES/CREDITS.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of graduate education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements (i.e., 6 months of specialized experience at the GS-09 level and 45 semester credits of graduate education in graphic design, visual communications, etc.).

To be eligible for this position, you must possess the specialized experience and/or education as described in question 1 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire.
Other Information:
A tentative selectee must undergo a background investigation and favorable results must be received by Glacier National Park prior to a final job offer and establishment of an entrance-on-duty date.

New permanent employees of the Federal government must serve a 1-year probationary period.Upon satisfactory completion of any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.Upon entry on duty, you will be required to:a) submit a photocopy of your valid state-issued driver’s license; and b) sign a self-certification that your driver’s license is current and valid.You may also be required to submit, at your own expense, (within a state-sealed envelope or submitted directly by the state authorities) certified driving records from all states disclosing all valid driver’s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Failure to provide proof of a valid driver’s license may be grounds for termination.

The wearing of the National Park Service uniform is a requirement of these positions. The uniform must be worn in accordance with applicable policies, and the selectee will be required to sign an acknowledgement letter.
The selectee must be 18 years of age or at least 16 years of age and a high school graduate at the time he/she reports for work.The selectee must be a U.S. citizen.Proof of citizenship is required.Before entering on duty, the applicant must document citizenship by providing the following:
A. One of these documents: a. U.S. Passport, b. Certificate of U.S. citizenship, OR
c. Certificate of Naturalization OR
B. Two of the following:a. State Driver’s License/ID card, or b. U.S. Military card
AND c. Original Social Security Number card, or d. Certified Birth Certificate.
3. The selectee must certify that they are physically able to perform the duties of the position.
4. The selectee must meet requirements for members-of-family and nepotism as appropriate.
5. The selectee, if male born after 12/31/59 who is at least 18 years of age and who is required by Federal Law 5 U.S.C. 3328 to register, must certify to his registration with the Selective Service System.
6. The selectee may be required to undergo a physical examination at their expense.However, there are provisions for reimbursement.
7. Selectee is subject to a background investigation.

This position is located in the Division of Interpretation and Education at Glacier National Park.The incumbent is responsible for the following work elements that are required to develop project plans and coordinate the production and installation of media and exhibits.Multi-media: Determine the need for and facilitate the creation of multi-media projects using the principles outlined in the National Park Service Interpretive Development Program. Designs, creates, develops, and produces new and innovative media which convey parkwide interpretive themes to a wide and varied audience.Products produced may include: specialized web-based features such as eHikes and eTours, Podcasts, database driven web-features, DVDs, and video productions.Exhibits: Assists in development of exhibits from conception through completion, as well as drafting Scope of Work statements for exhibits plans.Designs, prepares, and produces interior and exterior interpretive exhibits.Work includes fabrication of exhibits. Finished products are targeted to meet specific interpretive and informational purposes, and audiences intended for the product.Publications: Designs, prepares, and produces interpretive publications such as interpretation activity schedules, site bulletins, and newspapers and creates electronic files ready for delivery to commercial printers.This includes writing, editing, graphics placement, and layout, coordinating production and delivery with local printers, and meeting deadlines.Individual works directly with contractors, exhibit fabricators, graphic designers, and private companies coordinating the creation, fabrication, and installation of media products.

Physical Demands:
Work may require repetitious movements and long periods of stationary work at computer work-stations.Work also requires moderate physical exertion fabricating exhibits, lifting and installing exhibits, and moving boxes of publications.

Travel and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be paid by the National Park Service only for current permanent or term Federal employees.
