QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification.All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
Experience or Education.Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate?s degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology.
Loss of Credential.An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain licensure/certification/registration within the required timeframe, or who fails to maintain the required licensure/certification/registration must be removed from the occupation, which may result in termination of employment.
For GS-9:
(a)Experience.Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level.In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
(b)Certification.Certification by ARRT in one of the specialized areas of radiologic technology is highly desirable, in addition to certification by ARRT as a general radiologic technologist.
(c) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
*1.Ability to balance the needs of the patients and staff while performing complex scans and procedures.
2.Skill to demonstrate appropriate techniques to gather relevant information fromthe medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
*3.Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
4.Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
5.Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous skills, and universal precautions.
6.Knowledge in pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.

The incumbent performs computerized axial tomographic (CT) scanning of the total body or head.They assist in scheduling patents for procedures:evaluate the nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearranges patients to meet priority needs.The technologist explains the procedure to the patients and gives instructions necessary for successful completion of the examination. Assists the patients on and off the CT table and provide for their safety.The incumbent confers with the radiologist to establish requirements of non-standard procedures:determine technical factors, slice thickness and number of scans to satisfy the requirements of the procedure.The incumbent assists the radiologist in determining the proper CT protocols for various disease processes.The technologist notifies the radiologist and referring physician of scans requiring their immediate attention.The incumbent assists the radiologist in performing needle biopsies and other invasive procedures.The technologist performs three (3) dimensional reconstruction of CT images as appropriate.Performs general and fluoroscopic diagnostic examinations as directed when required.The incumbent prints to film all images and/or sends the acquired information to PACS.Maintain records of patients treated and examinations performed.The incumbent operates all radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment, performs all types of radiographic, tomographic and fluoroscopic procedures.Works closely with the professional staff involved in radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations.Technologist will independently perform examinations of the head, entire spine, chest, abdomen and extremities.Incumbent performs complex procedures requiring the administration of contrast material, with a radiologist.Examinations include:cholecystograms, G.I. series, single and double contrast enemas, hysterosalpinograms, myelograms, arthrograms, sinograms, venograms and shuntograms.Technologist will be responsible for proper preparation of these examinations by assuring that all required materials, sterile supplies, local anesthetics, contrast materials, and catheters are collected and set up as needed.Maintain records of patient examined, examination(s) performed, procedure room, total exposure time (in minutes) of fluoroscopic procedures and number and type of films utilized during examination.Performs related clerical duties as:registering patients for examinations, status tracking examinations, identifying films and recording pertinent data for electronic work orders.Incumbent is required to keep abreast of current technical literature and evaluate new procedures and techniques for the purpose of recommending for consideration changes to the current practices.
