Work requires extensive periods of standing and walking, regular and recurring bending, lifting (less than 40 pounds), stooping, and stretching. Work requires contact with potentially biologically hazardous specimens and occasionally works with hazardous chemicals. There is frequent contact with patients with undiagnosed illnesses. Employee may be exposed to communicable diseases. Protective equipment such as gloves, lab coats, goggles, and masks is required. Inclement weather essential position. Pre-appointment physical with color vision screening is required. Work shift: occasional weekends/holidays and can be either day, evening or night shift. General Schedule Specialized experience is defined as experience that provided the knowledge, skills and ability to organize materials and procedures associated with the pre-analytic sample accessioning/ processing of a wide spectrum of clinical specimens for multiple laboratory assays and ensure the accurate and timely handling of samples. NCAN08495831D Health Technician (Lab Client Services) Additional Duty Location Info:1 vacancy - DC - Washington MAJOR DUTIES: BackToTop(); Serves as a specimen processing technician and phlebotomist. Receives samples and specimens of tissue. Performs clerical duties related to handling of laboratory specimens. Processes a wide variety of laboratory specimens from within WRAMC as well as NARMC remote sites for shipment to civilian or military reference laboratories using procedures and materials that conform to EPA (CFR 40) and OSHA (CFR 29) regulations. Serves as a laboratory receptionist in greeting patients, providing them with appropriate guidance, answering non-technical inquiries, and referring technical inquiries to the appropriate laboratory staff. Performs blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. Performs special procedures to include, but not limited to administration of oral products such as Glucola for glucose tolerance testing, bleeding times and other timed collection tests.
