Specialized experience must demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of professional nursing theories, procedures and techniques used in the care and treatment of patients ranging from 3 days old to geriatrics; knowledge of procedures to include but not limited to flexible sigmoidoscopies, vasectomies, pap smears, mole and wart removals, and IUD placements; knowledge of the nursing process; skill and ability to develop, implement and revise a nursing care plan that meets the needs of the patient; skill and ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing plan and care provided; skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as pulse oximeter, suction equipment, tympanic thermometer, endoscopic scopes and equipment, oxygen tank, scope washers, vital sign machine, EKG machine and emergency resuscitative equipment; operational knowledge of the administrative procedures of the clinic necessary to perform administrative duties when assigned; knowledge of general and complex nursing procedures including venipuncture, suctioning, IV fluids, patient positioning, preparing and obtaining biopsies for examination, preparing rooms for procedures; knowledge of procedures to prepare patients and assist the provider with tests, examinations, treatments, procedures and injections; knowledge of laboratory procedures and protocols; skill in collecting a variety of samples with ability to interpret values and initiate appropriate action; knowledge of pharmaceutical agents and their desired effects in order to recognize adverse effects and take appropriate corrective measures; knowledge of a variety of diseases/disorders, procedures, the normal course of treatment, anticipated complications and indicated therapeutic intervention; knowledge of established clinic, hospital and JCAHO requirements for clinical and documentation protocols for safety, infection control, quality improvement, etc; skill and ability to provide care to a large number of patients, to identify abnormal or emergency conditions and to modify the plan of care concurrent with provider's orders; and skill in assessing patients who have walked-in or phoned for assistance.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled.Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Assigns nursing staff to patient care duties based on scope of practice, competency level and available personnel. Monitors and oversees nursing staff performance to assure work and nursing care is accomplished in a timely and safe manner. Provides advice, assistance, counsel and instruction to nursing personnel. Ensures appropriate patient education and documentation occurs during shift. Assesses the patient's and/or family's learning needs and the patient's and/or family's abilities and readiness to learn. Independently teaches patient and family about procedures, medications, disease processes and diagnosis. Documents patient assessment, allergies, vital signs, patient and/or significant other's knowledge of the procedure, patient responses (positive and negative), instructions/teaching and patient's understanding.
