USAJOBS #07-339 Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (Outpatient Section) QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: a. Must be a U.S. Citizen. b. Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy form an approved college or university.The degree program must have been approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical education (ACPE), or prior to the establishment of ACPE, have been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) OR Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if their degree is found to be equivalent to degree programs recognized by the ACPE.This finding may be based on any of the following: (a) a letter of acceptance into a U.S. graduate pharmacy program recognized by the ACPE; (b) Written certification form the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission, that the individual has successfully passed the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination; or (c) a letter from a U.S. college or university with a pharmacy degree program recognized by the ACPE stating that the individual?s foreign pharmacy degree has been evaluated and found to be equivalent to its Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. c. Full, current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory Commonwealth of the United States, (i.e., Puerto Rico), or District of Columbia. d. Must meet the physical requirements of this position.Preplacement medical evaluation/examination may be required e. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S. C 7402(d) and 7407. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, candidates must have all of the following: 1. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledges, skills, abilities and other characteristics associated with current professional pharmacy practice.The experience or education must have been gained within 3 years prior to the date of appointment.This may be evidenced by one or more of the following during the 3-year period: (a) The equivalent of 1 year of active professional practice.Active professional practice means paid/non-paid employment as a professional pharmacist as defined by the appropriate licensing board; (b) In addition to a full, current and unrestricted license, annual completion of a minimum of 15 continuing education units (CEUs) recognized by ACPE; or (c) Academic course work leading to an advanced degree in pharmacy or a related health care field. 2. Experience is only creditable if it is post-licensure experience as a professional pharmacist directly related to the position to be filled.Qualifying experience must be also be at a level comparable to pharmacy experience at the GS-9 level.Experience as a Graduate Pharmacist is creditable provided the candidate was used as a professional pharmacist and subsequently passed the appropriate licensure examination. 3. Completion of the equivalent of 1 year of creditable experience at the GS-9 level, which is directly related to the position to be filled. You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position. The VA has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy.All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA for a period of six months.This policy extends to random testing for the use of illegal drugs by employees who occupy testing designated positions defined as sensitive in Section 7(d) of Executive Order 12564. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in writing, reading and speaking English A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant?s successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. As a primary provider, this position independently plans day-to-day priorities, resolves problems, and coordinates responsibilities with other patient care providers for assigned patients. Pharmaceutical care duties are also performed in other areas of the Medical Center as necessity requires and time permits. This position is under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Inpatient Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator. This position is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients at this Medical Center. These pharmaceutical care responsibilities include but are not limited to: a. assessing patients' current drug therapy and history, b. developing, recommending, and/or initiating drug therapy plans based on patients' drug therapy assessment, c. monitoring, prescribing, renewing, changing, and/or discontinuing patients' medications according to a drug therapy plan, d. ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests for drug therapy monitoring, e. documenting in the patients' electronic record the assessments, recommendations, drug therapies provided, order changes and/or deletions made and other drug-related education and information necessary to ensure continuity of patients' care.
