QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

General Schedule Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is experience which has provided the applicant with (1) Knowledge of, and skill in applying, a standardized body of military HR rules, procedures, and operations sufficient to perform a full range of military HR support assignments and provide support to military HR Specialists in one or more specialties involved in a variety of tasks involving eligibility verification and issue of ID cards and Common Access Cards (CAC) and enrollment in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) medical benefits program. (2) Knowledge to use personal computers and software programs in an office environment to extract, revises, or sort information from files, records, or databases.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).GS-06 and above: One year of experience directly related to the occupation and equivalent to the next lower grade level. Education is not creditable, however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Performs a variety of tasks involving eligibility verification and issue of ID cards and Common Access Cards (CAC) and enrollment in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) medical benefits program. Reviews application for Uniformed Services ID Cards and DEERS Enrollment (DD Form 1172 and DD Form 1171-2). Determines entitlement, prepares ID Card(s), updates DEERS, and mails ID Card(s). Inprocesses newly arrived soldiers, DOD civilians and contractors by updating RAPIDS, i.e., adding new dependents, changing addresses, etc., and issuing new CAC cards to newly hired civilians and/or contractors, issuing initial CAC card to newly arrived MEPS soldiers. Uses personal computer and RAPID/DEERS software, or typewriter when required, types information in identification cards, prepares DD Form 1172 for family care plans, takes photographs, laminates cards and processes changes/enrollments to the DEERS when such changes/enrollments are substantiated by supporting documents.
