QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

General Schedule BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in related field of study. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Candidates for this job must show on their resume that they meet the minimum qualifications described below and have training or experience in the following area: 1) Experience designing large and complex mechanical systems. 2) Experience in engineering duties to include the operation, maintenance, design and layout of plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, utility and other systems. 3) Experience preparing correspondence, reports and schedules or other work that is typically in or related to the duties of this position. NOTE: Work involves walking, standing, crawling, kneeling. stooping. bending, and climbing. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions. Frequently lifts objects weighing from 15 to 44 pounds. NOTE: Works outside and inside in heat, cold, excessive humidity, excessive dampness or chilling weather. Mechanical Engineer

MAJOR DUTIES:

You will perform professional engineering duties and be responsible for mechanical features involving original design, modification, repair, installation and maintenance of plants/facilities. You will develop the design, plan, cost estimates and specifications for plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, utility and other systems of major size and complexity for use in Government facilities, including multi-story office buildings, historical buildings, steam plants, sewage plants, hospitals and similar structures. Perform or direct the survey/investigation at the project site to determine condition of facilities and secure necessary data. Coordinate with engineers/architects in design development, evaluate design objectives, perform complex technical calculations. Prepare correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports and schedules. Review/evaluate shop drawings, samples, material certifications and review architect-engineer firm designs.
